Tuawhitu o Akarana | RTLB Cluster 7 supports schools in the Central Auckland Region covering an area of about 68 square km, stretching from Ponsonby to Lynfield on the mainland, as well as Waiheke Island and Great Barrier Island in the Hauraki Gulf. We support 68 schools, with a roll of 35,616 students. 11.6% are Māori, and 15.8% are Pacific learners. 11.2% are ESOL funded migrant and former refugee learners. We have 12 Secondary Schools, 7 Intermediate Schools, 12 Full Primary Schools, 33 Contributing Schools and 1 Kura Kaupapa. We have 8 schools offering Māori Medium Education in full immersion or bilingual classes and 3 offering Pacific Language immersion. We have 37 RTLB including the Cluster Manager. We have 4 Practice Leaders. Our lead school is Newmarket Primary School. We have a centralised office based at 155 New North Road.
Each school has an RTLB liaison whose role is to:
Build and maintain a good relationship between the RTLB Service and the school
Ensure schools are familiar with cluster procedures and types of support available
Help SENCo identify student needs and explore possible pathways for support
Discuss possible requests for support (RfS) and monitoring current RfS progress
Assist SENCO with framing RFS for individuals, groups and individual school projects
Assist SENCO with accessing the RTLB database for referrals
Provide the school with Professional Learning during staff meetings or Teacher Only Days
Meet with the SENCo regularly and keep accurate records of discussions
